Mt Hotham, VIC

Cultural Heritage Officer and Track Construction supervisor Andrew Swift, of the with Mt Hotham Resorts Managenent Board, is happy to give a short talk and presentation to walking clubs that come up to the mountain. Contact him at andrewswift@mthotham.com.au for details and to sign him up.

The presentation usually explains track construction techniques, such as path and remote bridge construction, as well as flora, fauna and cultural heritage issues.

He also likes to give a bit of a history of the Hotham area and some of the gold mining history associated with the Cobungra Ditch and Spargo’s Hut.

There is also a short 14 minute re-enactment film that desribes the construction of the Cobungra Ditch water race and the sudden dismissal of over 90 men and their protest march.

Additional information on the walking track and many other walks in the area is available from the website, including track notes to download.
